1.) What is your favorite gadget and why?

My PSP has saved me more than a couple times from boredom. I also use my ASUS laptop for demo recordings (and even some fillers in the new album). The COWON multimedia player that Gadgets gave us is also very nice! ;)

2.) What do you think is the most revolutionary gadget of all time?

In recent history, the most revolutionary gadget should be the mp3 player, definitely. Not just the iPod, ha? These gadgets changed the whole music industry. During the 90�s there were already mp3s, but you could only play them in computers. Now, you can get music from anywhere and listen to it everywhere.

I also have to add the electric guitar. I just love guitars! I have a nice collection of guitars. The electric guitar is a very sexy instrument. Guitars used to be boring� But when they invented the electric guitar.. wow, sexy time!!!

3.) What gadget is on your wishlist?

A Macbook pro and a new car. Hahaha ;)

4.) How do you think you've matured as a band? Was there a change in sound or perspective with respect to the music?

Yeah, of course. We used to be a na�ve, happy band who didn�t have a lot of angst. Now, the music, lyrics and the band itself are quite mature already. We�re still goofy and all, but we learned a few things along the way na. Like, we self-produced our latest album. It takes a lot of patience and maturity to do that. The end result, I think is our best album yet. This is the album where we gave it all, and we didn�t stop until we got what we wanted. This wouldn�t have been possible if not for the undying support of our label, Sony-BMG. :)

5.) Describe that pivotal moment when you knew that you wanted to be a musician.

I�ve been playing piano and singing since I was 3 or 4 years old. I never thought I would achieve this. I just thought it was something to do during Saturdays or whatever� In high school, I discovered grunge, and decided to learn how to play the guitar. It was way cooler than playing the piano! :)

6.) Which local artist/musician do you admire most and why?

The Eraserheads, definitely. They empowered me to write my own songs. Before kasi, bands were rated on how well they cover a song. When ultraelectro came out, I thought to myself, �Uy, pwede pala yun? I can do that!�. All four of them helped us in one way or the other� We recorded our first demo at Ely�s home studio. Buddy produced our 1^st album. Raimund and Buddy produced our second album. We played for Markus Highway recently. We�ve all played for them and with them. I will never stop being an Eheads fan. :)

I. 10 QUESTIONS

BANDA: What was the first concert you ever saw?

I watched variety shows during high school, and the first few bands that I saw were True Faith, Introvoys, Stormfront, and the Eraserheads

BANDA: What CDs are in your iPod/MP3 at the moment?

I haven't updated my iPod in a while, because my PC crashed! But I've been listening to Rico Blanco's Your Universe, Weezer's Red Album, The Pearlfishers' Up With The Larks, Ciudad's Bring Your Friends, Markus Highway's Behold, Rejoice! Surfernando Is Hear Nah., and Menaya's The Worst News

BANDA: How many total albums do you own (CDs, cassettes)?

I don't keep count! Probably in the thousands� (Sigurado lagpas sa 60 GB!)

BANDA: Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?

No, I don't download anything. I recently moved out of my old house, and I only have dial up connection in my new place. :(
Illegal downloading is BAD!!!

BANDA: What was the first album you owned?

The first album that I bought for myself is probably Aerosmith's Get A Grip (either that, or Introvoys' 1st album, but Aerosmith is way cooler!)

(I used to borrow tapes from my brothers or cousins or, I would just listen to the radio)

BANDA: Hmm� what song would you like to have played on your wedding?

Enter Sandman� Hehehe�. Sigurado may Beatles song, like Here, There and Everywhere and/or Something. Meron din sigurong God Only Knows ng Beach Boys. Kasama din ang Oh My Love ni John Lennon at My Love ni Paul McCartney.

BANDA: Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

I like Anggulo's The Best Mistake. Emo, pero ang galing eh!

Sometimes, I also like to listen to the blues. Hindi all the time at hindi sunod-sunod ha? Pero if the mood is right, the blues can take away your blues in no time! :)

BANDA: What (other) band or artist changed your life, and how?

Aside from the Beatles? The Eraserheads, definitely. They showed me that it is possible to write your own songs. It seems so easy now, but back then, your band was rated based on how well you could cover a song. The eheads showed our generation that we can be famous by writing our own songs!

BANDA: Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

Abbey Road by the Beatles.

BANDA: The last time I was told I looked like Jugs Jugueta? J

Haha! I always get mistaken for Ebe Dancel. One time, there was this drunk in SaGuijo, who annoyingly kept shouting at me, "Idol, Panday naman diyan!!". We used to get mistaken for Orange And Lemons all the time, but I don't think that will be a problem now hahaha :)

i like your new album!

actually..., to tell you the truth...
i was very afraid to listen your new album even though you told that it was much better than noon time show.
because i love your 2nd album.
i didn't hope to disappoint you and your 3rd album, i would like to keep being your fan.
so i was very afraid to listen it^^;;;;

BUT!
now i know that was too stupid worrying.
i love your new album!
i love all songs, taragang taraga.
nevertheless, if you will ask me which song my favorite is,
i will need a lot of hours for choosing it.
and depending on my mood, i should change my answer^^
but i can promise you that i always love;
'Sino Ka Nga Ba?'
'Misis Fely Nimfa Ang Pangalan'
and
'Isang Al Frescong Takip-Silim Sa Cafe Francois'
'Awitin Para Sa Mga Nagmumuni-muni'

i like the sounds of acostice guitar,
so i like 'Sino Ka Nga Ba?' as same as 'fond of you' in your 1st album.
i am sure that this song should be loved by many people over the world.
melody line gives me comfortableness,
like as saying 'you are ok, you don't have to do harder, you can rest'.

in the case of 'Misis Fely Nimfa Ang Pangalan',
i always listen to this song with something nostalgia, as feeling of longing for love.

'Pataasan Ng Weewee' and 'Steady Lang Tayo' also make me happy.

Recently there are a lot of songs like hard rock, R&B, Digital music, etc.
and many musician are eager to try to make their originality,
and they seem to think that a deviation is cool, originality, fashion, etc.
but we, listers sometimes may feel uncomfortable such a sound, actually.
so that's why i was afraid of listening your new album with wishing something new.
but your new album is high standard, very enjoyable, very cute, and well-balanced present for all listers.
i am very happy to know you and this album.

and that's why i want to ask you,
'why did you produce this album like this?'
something new, and something old.
but that is the new.
for example, 'Steady Lang Tayo' is like 70's or 80's sounds for me.
but this is very cute and beautiful in this album.

kailangan ko alis dito sa filipinas sa 30 agosto.
gust kong pumunta sa gig mo as much as i can before i leave here.
kasi gust kong aalam ng mga kanta mo sa tinga ko.

What's the name of your latest CD?

it's called SELF-TITLED.

How long did you guys work on this CD from start to finish?

we started practicing January 2008. Mid or end of January, we started recording. we just finished recording last week (end of april).
it's now time for mixing and mastering... plus shooting the album cover and the video :)

Who writes most of the lyrics?

We all help write the lyrics... (see next question's answer)

What is your songwriting process this time around?

usually, jazz,and comes to a session with a chorus or a verse (or both)... then we all help (either individually or as a group) to finish the job.
sometimes, i come in with a finished song (lyrics and melody), and we arrange the song as a group.
sometimes also, jazz comes in with a finished song, complete with his idea of the arrangement... then we all try to insert our two cent's worth.

What were some of the inspirations behind the songs lyrically and musically?
Where does the band draw their lyrical inspiration from?

lyrically, we get our ideas from our own experiences, whether good or bad ones. Or sometimes, we also look into other people's experiences.
Or sometimes, we invent an absurd situation and get a laugh doing it!
musically, i think we've matured since our last album. We still love the Beatles, the E'heads, Bob Marley, and all the classics, but we've expanded our musical tastes some more (thanks to our mp3 players!)
there's a little bit of funk, disco, punk, and a little bit of everything else in this new album.

How did the band decide which songs would be released as singles?

Sony-BMG still has the final say, but we tell them what we want. Of course, we choose what we think are the best in the bunch.

When you went into the studio to record the album how many songs did you have and how did you decide which ones would make it onto the album?

we only had a handful of songs when we started recording... but everything fell into place once we decided that
it was already time to work! There were probably two or three songs that were cut out from the album. We decided to
make it an all-tagalog record. Jazz actually re-wrote an English song that we've already laid in.
he rewrote the lyrics AND melody over the arrangement. It was originally called She's Like You...
and it became Nahuli Mo Na Ba Ako.

Did you have an idea of what direction you wanted this album to go or did you guys just jump in and see what happens?

We really wanted to self-produce the album from the start. Aside from that, it was all "bahala na!"
This was our first time to produce a full length album, so we didn't have a clue! We didn't even have a proper
pre-prod. After Noon Time Show, we recorded a bunch of songs (for commercials, compilation albums, etc..) on our
own. We thought that it was as easy to do that for a whole album... we were wrong! :)
But it was a very good learning experience for all of us. ;)

How do you feel about your accomplishments and who inspired the band as a group?

when we started the band, all i wanted was to put out a major-label album... So all of this is just gravy for me.
We feel so blessed to have this job that we love so much! And we would like to thank everyone who has helped us from day one.
It is these people who inspire us to strive to be better at what we do. Our Manager, Kerwin Rosete; our itchycrew;
our record label, who believes in our music;and most especially, our loyal fans. We are nothing without these people.

What do you think of the scene now compared to what it was 5-7 years ago?

it's a double-edged sword for me. obviously, digital technology and the internet, helped globalize music, giving us
the chance to spread OPM all over the world. However, it also gave rise to digital piracy, which threatens to destroy the music industry.
but i truly believe that as long as there are kids, there will always be rock n' roll! ;)

What do you want people to know or understand from your band and your music?

that we're a fun and rowdy bunch that might come off as obnoxious or suplado, but it's just because we're really tight as a group.
we're really good friends who enjoy each other's company.
we also want to uplift the musical tastes of the masses, because we believe that it could happen!

On the average how many songs does Itchyworms write before going into the studio and recording an album?

we constantly write in between albums, we choose the best among those, and then start arranging and practicing them.
we probably prepared around 20 songs for this album.

Has the popularity of Itchyworms taken you by surprise?

"surprised" is an understatement! We have always believed in ourselves even during the time when our former managers and former labels didn't... but we never expected anything like this. We are truly lucky bastards!

So what's in the agenda for 2008?

Hopefully, more gigs!!! More school, mall and bar gigs! More corporate gigs! More out of town and out of the country gigs! :)

Hindi ba kayo naaasar sa mga Pulitiko na may abbreviation sa lahat ng projects nila na naka-base sa mga letra ng pangalan nila?

Halimbawa, GMA:

G - Gumawa ng
M - Mabuti
A- Araw-araw

... or something like that!!!

Hindi ba't nakaka-gago???

Actually, dati okey pa... Noong wala pang masyadong gumagawa. Tsaka tipong isa lang talaga yung meaning ng abbreviation. Ngayon kasi, pipilitin hangga't sa makakaya yung mga letra eh!

Parang si Sonny Belmonte, mayor ng QC, lahat na lang, SB!!

"Serbisyong Bayan" or "Samahang Barkada" or whatever...

Ang nakaka-asar, minsan talagang pilit na pilit para lang pumasok! (Eto, di ginawa ni SB, inimbento ko lang... pero madaming mga councilor, etc etc na ganito yung ginagawa)...

ie., "Simbulo ng kapayapaan ng ating Bayan"
or... "Simbahan ayusin para sa mga Bata"
or mga super pilit talaga, parang:
"liniSin ang ating mga Basura!"

Do you know what i mean?? Isang araw, pipic-turan ko yang mga yan, yung mga absurdo... para ilagay dito. Wala lang!!!
